Revenge, lust, ambition, pride, and self-will are too often exalted as the gods of man’s idolatry; while holiness, peace, contentment, and humility are viewed as unworthy of a serious thought. Charles Spurgeon
Meditation: I was asked by a German Christian Newspaper to write something about how I have experience the “one year of Trump”. I think the most tangible are the invasion of all of our lives by toxic energies. Seeping into our unconscious through social media and news are those idolatries listed above: the spirit of revenge, greed/lust, narcissistic ambition, pride and self-worship flood our collective unconscious. Our country is being infected, seduced, made sick and blinded by those “gods of man” as Spurgeon called it. It has been challenging for us who seek God’s Spirit to remain hope filled and at peace despite those energies flooding our brains, computers and living rooms. In many ways, we need to ask daily, no even hourly, for God’s Spirit to produce in us the antidote, namely spiritually immunity building energies like: humility, patience, truth telling, self-control, love and joy. When the news media frantically follow every tweet and often just serve as a channel for the invasive and sickening energies of this new president, we the spiritual communities are called upon to clearly name, call out and denounce this kind of idolatry. When we consciously pray, ask for and open ourselves up to the energies of God’s Spirit, we do not allow our unconscious to fall for the schemes of political leaders who lie, manipulate, only seek their own advantage and have no empathy. Instead we are using this/these year(s) of idolatry and disorientation as an opportunity to ground ourselves even deeper in God’s Spirit who lives in and through us.
Prayer: God in these sickening times, keep Your people healthy. Build our spiritual immune system and prepare us for what is to come. Let us not just be against what is happening to our country, but let us grow in the fruits of Your Spirit to envision a different world where Your Kin-dom is growing and becoming reality once again. God, please, change the leadership of this country, and let it begin with me. Amen
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 And the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23
