Today is a most unusual day, because we have never lived it before; we will never live it again; it is the only day we have. William Arthur Ward
Meditation: If we live life only to prepare for retirement, we might be wise. However, we might also be foolish. Tomorrow is not promised. Today is all we have. If we are too anxious to seize the day, we might miss it. Days will begin to accumulate like water drops, instead of being unique experiences like snowflakes. If my life becomes routine, it is no longer new, surprising or exciting. I will eventually drown in the water of a boring everydayness. However, when I see each day as an unique opportunity, every day will be a “little life”. Like snowflakes, I will notice that each day has its own unique “crystal formation”. When I withdraw from putting all my energy into the future, and when I realize that today is the only day I have, I will see the uniqueness of each day and not miss it.
Prayer: God, You are a God of today. You invite us to be fully present and alive today. You want us not to miss the gifts you give us today by being anxious about tomorrow. God, teach us to live in the here and now. Amen
Seize life! Eat bread with gusto, Drink wine with a robust heart. Oh yes – God takes pleasure in your pleasure! 8 Dress festively every morning. Don’t skimp on colors and scarves. 9 Relish life with the spouse you love each and every day of your precious life. Each day is God’s gift. It’s all you get in exchange for the hard work of staying alive. Make the most of each one! Ecclesiastes 9: 7-9
