A single act of courage is often the tipping point for extraordinary change. Andy Stanley
Meditation: A few weeks ago one single football player knelt to express his protest of racial injustice and oppression. His example spread and many followed. Even in Germany soccer players knelt in solidarity with him and his protest. A few days ago a single woman chose to speak up, put everything on the line and expose 30 years and hundreds of incidences of sexual exploitation by a powerful business man. Her courage and example spread, and many women followed. Many men started speaking up also in solidarity with these women. Even though our current cultural climate is shaped by a President and a group of politicians who abuse their power by practicing public shaming and defaming, more and more individuals are finding the courage to stand up to power. They risk everything. And a single act of courage is often the tipping point for extraordinary change. God’s Spirit works through individuals. God’s Spirit can work through me and you. However, let’s not be naïve. Let’s be on our guard while standing firmly grounded in our faith and trust in God. And most of all, let us call upon God’s Spirit of courage and strength. Let light shine and expose what is too shameful to be talked about, so that healing can begin and justice can be restored.
Prayer: God, it is too much. We are sick and tired of the “Zeitgeist” (Spirit of our time). The injustice and lack of empathy, the exploitation of the poor and vulnerable, the blaming of others, the lies…We are so sick and tired of this oppressive “Zeitgeist”. God, send Your “tipping” Spirit of courage. Show us where we are called to “kneel”, “reveal” and “join others”. God we ache for change. Amen
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 1. Corinthians 16:13
