We learned about gratitude and humility – that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean… and we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect. Michelle Obama
Meditation: I am working for two non-profit organizations, both of which are being hosted by churches. One for 40 years at an Episcopal Church, the other for 18 years at a Lutheran Church. The German church I pastor celebrates worship every Sunday in a beautiful space without having to pay rent. We are being integrated as part of the larger Lutheran church’s mission and ministry. The same with the counseling and chaplaincy training program I oversee. We serve clients and students every day in a beautiful and healing environment, again without having to pay rent. The Episcopal church sees us as an extension of their mission and ministry. I feel deeply grateful and am humbled by such deep commitment over such a long time. It is a privilege being part of such vital communities whose mission is to embody Christ in the world.
Prayer: God of generosity, thank you for these two churches who have extended themselves in trust, commitment and hospitality. Thank You for their delight in the work we as smaller ministries do as an extension of their mission. Thank You that they generously share their resources with us. Thank You for Your Spirit that permeates relationships and that makes deep and long lasting covenants possible. You, in the embodiment of Your grace in these church communities, are amazing! Amen
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 1. Peter 3:8
