“Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person’s ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.” ―C.S. Lewis
Meditation: Sometimes we don’t feel romantic love anymore. We then worry about our partnership. Many measure their love on how often they still go out on a date or how often flowers are still being brought home. Those expressions and times can be nice refreshers of the relationship. However, sometimes we don’t feel romantic love anymore. We wonder if the relationship is still alive and well. I often ask couples if they still pray for each other. In prayer we release fears, measurement and judgements about the other person and about the relationship. Instead, we call on God’s Spirit to fill the person we are committed to with love. We pray for all that he or she needs to grow, be well and flourish. Shifting the focus from taking our romantic pulse, and lifting the partner up to God has healing and sustaining power.
Prayer: God of love, today we lift our partners up to You. We pray for Your Spirit to fill them with your healing presence and love. We pray that they may blossom and grow in ways only You can bring forth. We pray that they will be happy and fulfilled. We pray for their body, mind and spirit to be filled with peace and with love. Amen
Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. Matthew 19:6
